RESUMO

Hortaea werneckii causes Tinea nigra, a rare superficial mycosis. It has not been reported in Iran yet. We report a case of an Iranian boy resident of Amol (Mazandaran, Iran) that developed brown macules on his left palm. Direct microscopic examination and culture confirmed the diagnosis of Tinea nigra.

A 38-year-old healthy male presented to our medical mycology center with whitish opaque discoloration of the right toenail. He reported a history of some sand scratches subsequent to walking barefoot on the beach two years ago and wearing hard safety shoes for a period of two years. On clinical examination, onycholysis, onychodystrophy, and apparent thickening of the ungual bed in the left big toe were found. The microscopic examination of nail clippings using 15% potassium hydroxide (KOH/) revealed the presence of septate pigmented hyphae. The fungus was identified as Neoscytalidium dimidiatum based on the cultural characteristics, the arrangement of arthroconidia on lactophenol cotton blue (LPCB) staining, blocky-brown pigmented hyphae on serum physiology mounts, and sequencing. Susceptibility of the isolated fungi to amphotericin B, itraconazole, voriconazole, and terbinafine was tested using the standard broth microdilution M38-A2 method developed by the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI). The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of the four antifungal drugs used in this study were: amphotericin B: 1 mg/L, itraconazole: 2 mg/L, voriconazole: 0.25 mg/L, and terbinafine: 1 mg/L. The patient underwent terbinafine and clobetasol topical treatments for 6 months.

BACKGROUND: Germline autosomal dominant and autosomal recessive mutations in PERP, encoding p53 effector related to PMP-22 (PERP), a component of epidermal desmosomes, have been associated with a spectrum of keratodermas. Monoallelic nonsense mutations cause Olmsted syndrome with severe periorificial keratoderma and palmoplantar keratoderma (PPK). Biallelic recessive frameshift and missense mutations are associated with milder forms of the disease, including generalised erythrokeratoderma and PPK. OBJECTIVES: To add new insights into the genotype-phenotype correlations as a consequence of PERP mutations and to provide a comprehensive review of the literature. METHODS: Among 26 previously unresolved families within a cohort of 180 extended Iranian families with syndromic or non-syndromic ichthyosis, two families with shared clinical features were examined by whole-exome sequencing and genome-wide homozygosity mapping. Mycological and dermatopathological studies were performed to further characterise their atypical phenotypic presentations. RESULTS: In two unrelated multiplex consanguineous families affected by ichthyosis, two novel biallelic PERP variants, NM_022121.5, c.89T > C, p.Leu30Pro and c.466G > C, p.Gly156Arg, located inside of genomic homozygosity regions of the probands were detected. Interestingly, some patients had areas of scaly psoriasiform plaques on the background of generalised ichthyosis that appeared during active cutaneous fungal infections. Mycological examinations of these lesions revealed infections caused by Candida albicans, Epidermophyton floccosum, or Trichophyton rubrum. Histopathology of the psoriasiform lesions shared some features with psoriasis, which when combined with clinical presentation, led to incorrect diagnosis of guttate psoriasis or pustular psoriasis. CONCLUSIONS: PERP variants in ichthyosis patients can confer susceptibility to recalcitrant cutaneous fungal infections. Additionally, patients with episodic psoriasiform dermatitis in the setting of keratoderma should be considered for PERP genotyping and cutaneous fungal examinations.

OBJECTIVE: Candida parapsilosis species complex, an important set of non-albicans Candida species, is known to cause candidaemia particularly in neonates and infants. However, the incidence has increased in recent years, owing to higher numbers of at individuals at risk for these infections. Our objective was to evaluate the in vitro susceptibility of clinical isolates of C. parapsilosis complex isolates from Iran to seven antifungal drugs. MATERIAL AND METHODS: One hundred-one clinical isolates of C. parapsilosis species complex cultured from humans were included. Species identification had been previously confirmed by combined phenotypic characteristics, matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry-based assay and reconfirmed by DNA sequence analysis of the ITS rDNA region and D1/D2 gene. Minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) for amphotericin B, fluconazole, itraconazole, voriconazole, posaconazole, micafungin and anidulafungin were determined against well-characterized isolates by broth microdilution susceptibility testing according to the CLSI M27-A3 guideline. RESULTS: Species identifications were performed on 101 isolates, of which 88 (87.2%) C. parapsilosis sensu stricto and 13 (12.8%) C. orthopsilosis. Amphotericin B and posaconazole were the most active drugs with 100% of isolates being wild-type (WT). Voriconazole and micafungin, 99% of isolates were WT. The low activity was recorded for fluconazole and itraconazole with 93.1% and 89.1% of isolates being WT, respectively. At the species level, all Candida parapsilosis sensu stricto isolates were WT to amphotericin B and posaconazole and all Candida orthopsilosis isolates were WT to amphotericin B, voriconazole, posaconazole, anidulafungin and micafungin. In contrast, the highest rate of non-WT was observed in C. orthopsilosis to itraconazole (4 of 13, 30.8%). CONCLUSIONS: Although almost all of the tested drugs demonstrated potent activity against C. parapsilosis species complex, it seems that more especially C. orthopsilosis isolates had decreased susceptibility to itraconazole. Further studies are needed to determine how these findings may switch into in vivo efficacy.

OBJECTIVE: Dermatophytes are a group of keratinophilic fungi that invade and infect the keratinized tissues and cause dermatophytosis. We investigated effectiveness of novel triazole (luliconazole and lanaconazole) in comparison with available antifungal agents against dermatophyte species isolated from patients with tinea pedis. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A total of 60 dermatophytes species were isolated from the patients with tinea pedis. Identification of species was done by DNA sequencing of the ITS1-5.8S rDNA-ITS2 rDNA region. In vitro antifungal susceptibility testing with luliconazole and lanaconazole and available antifungal agent was done in accordance with the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute, M38-A2 document. RESULTS: In all investigated isolates, luliconazole had the lowest minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) (MIC range=0.0005-0.004µg/mL), while fluconazole (MIC range=0.4-64µg/mL) had the highest MICs. Geometric mean MIC was the lowest for luliconazole (0.0008µg/mL), followed by lanoconazole (0.003µg/mL), terbinafine (0.019µg/mL), itraconazole (0.085 µg/mL), ketoconazole (0.089µg/mL), econazole (0.097µg/mL), griseofulvin (0.351 µg/mL), voriconazole (0.583µg/mL) and fluconazole (11.58µg/mL). CONCLUSION: The novel triazoles showed potent activity against dermatophytes and promising candidates for the treatment of tinea pedis caused by Trichophyton and Epidermophyton species. However, further studies are warranted to determine the clinical implications of these investigations.

OBJECTIVE: Candida parapsilosis is one of the main emerging non-Candida albicans species leading to superficial and systemic fungal infections in humans. Candida has the ability to produce biofilms associated with pathogenesis. The aim of the study was to estimate biofilm-producing ability of clinical isolates of C. parapsilosis sp. complex. METHODS: Clinical samples of C. parapsilosis complex have been analyzed. Crystal violet (CV) staining and tetrazolium reduction assay (MTT) have been used to analyze the clinical isolates ability to produce biofilms. The biofilm's structural characteristics have been assessed by using scanning electron microscopy. RESULTS: All 65 isolates were able to form biofilm. In addition, no significant difference was found between biofilm quantification based on two assays at different time intervals (24h, 48h, 72h, 96h) (P>0.05), with the exception of Candida orthopsilosis, which exhibited higher metabolic activity at 24h time point (P<0.05). Moreover, metabolic activity and production of biofilm biomass demonstrated statistically significant correlation (r=0.685, P<0.01). According to microscopic observations, the investigated clinical strains formed the similar surface topography with the slight differences in morphology; in addition, there was no statistically significant difference between efficiency of two assays to quantify biofilm. CONCLUSION: It was shown that, similar to C. parapsilosissensu stricto, two cryptic identified species (C. orthopsilosis and Candida metapsilosis) obtained from different clinical samples, were biofilm producers, while C. parapsilosissensu stricto exhibited the highest biofilm production.

Tricyclazole as a common fungicide wildly used to control rice blast disease in the Asian country may induce azole resistance in Aspergillus fumigatus isolates. The main reason of the acquired azole resistance is probably environmental exposure through wide fungicide use in agriculture. The present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the current status of the azole-resistant A. fumigatus obtained from the paddy fields with exposure to tricyclazole. A total of 108 soil samples were collected from four different locations of paddy fields in Mazandaran Province, Iran. Pure fungal colonies were initially identified based on the conventional tools, and then reconfirmed by using DNA sequencing of the partial ß-tubulin gene. In addition, the in vitro antifungal susceptibility was determined using the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute document (CLSI) M38-A2. The identification of the mutations in the CYP51A gene was accomplished by the implementation of the polymerase chain reaction amplification assay on the selected isolates. Overall, 31 of 108 (28.7%) isolates were identified as A. fumigatus, four (3.7%) of which were recognized as azole-resistant with MICs of itraconazole ≥8µg/ml and voriconazole ≥4µg/ml. Only two out of the four azole-resistant A. fumigatus isolates harboured TR34/L98H variant and the other two isolates were identified as azole-resistant without any CYP51A gene mutations. However, other point mutations (TR46/Y121F/T289A) were not detected in the CYP51A gene. The high molecular structure similarity between environmental and medical triazoles may result in the selection of resistance mechanisms. Nonetheless, one might conclude that tricyclazole with different molecular structures against medical azoles induces azole-resistance in A. fumigatus isolates. The behavior of such pesticides as tricyclazole in the rice paddy fields would have an effective role in the development of azole-resistance that requires detailed information.

Echinococcosis is a zoonotic disease caused by Echinococcus granulosus sensu lato. The liver and lungs are the most commonly sites of infections, but involvements of other organs were also observed. Recently, the coinfection of pulmonary hydatid cyst with aspergilloma has been reported in the literature. Herein, we report a successful treatment of coinfection of cystic echinoccosis with aspergilloma due to Aspergillus flavus in a 34-year-old female. In vitro antifungal susceptibility tests revealed that the MIC values for antifungals employed in this case were posaconazole (0.031µg/ml), itraconazole (0.125µg/ml), voriconazole (0.25µg/ml), and amphotericin B (1µg/ml). The minimum effective concentration for caspofungin was 0.008µg/ml. This coexistence of active pulmonary echinococcosis and aspergillosis is being reported because of its rarity and clinical importance for its management.

To date, there has been no comprehensive review of the epidemiology, risk factors, species distribution, and outcomes of candidemia in Iran. This study aimed to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of all reported candidemia cases in Iran until December 2015. The review process occurred in three steps, namely a literature search, data extraction and statistical analyses. After a comprehensive literature search, we identified 55 cases. The mean age of patients was 46.80±24.30 years (range 1-81 years). The main risk factors for candidemia were surgery and burns (23.6%), followed by malignancies (20%), use of broad-spectrum antibiotics (18.2%), and diabetes (7.3%). Candida parapsilosis (n=17, 30.8%) was the leading agent, followed by Candida albicans (n=15, 27.3%), Candida glabrata (n=10, 18.2%), and Candida tropicalis (n=8, 14.5%). The frequencies of candidemia cases due to C. glabrata, C. parapsilosis, and C. albicans were significantly higher among patients aged>60, 21-40, and 41-60 years, respectively. Comparison of risk factors for candidemia by multiple logistic regression showed that one of the most important risk factors was surgery (OR: 4.245; 95% CI: 1.141-15.789; P=0.031). The outcome was recorded in only 19 cases and 13 of those patients (68.4%) expired. This study confirms that knowledge of the local epidemiology is important when conducting surveillance studies to prevent and control candidemia and will be of interest for antifungal stewardship.

Aspergillus flavus is the second leading cause of invasive and non-invasive aspergillosis, as well as the most common cause of fungal sinusitis, cutaneous infections, and endophthalmitis in tropical countries. Since resistance to antifungal agents has been observed in patients, susceptibility testing is helpful in defining the activity spectrum of antifungals and determining the appropriate drug for treatment. A collection of 199 clinical and environmental strains of Aspergillus flavus consisted of clinical (n=171) and environmental (n=28) were verified by DNA sequencing of the partial b-tubulin gene. MICs of amphotericin B, itraconazole, voriconazole, posaconazole, and MEC of caspofungin were determined in accordance with the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute M38-A2 document. Caspofungin, followed by posaconazole, exhibited the lowest minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC). All isolates had caspofungin MEC90 (0.063µg/ml) lower than the epidemiologic cutoff values, and 3.5% of the isolates had amphotericin B MIC higher than the epidemiologic cutoff values. However, their clinical effectiveness in the treatment of A. flavus infection remains to be determined.

OBJECTIVE: Among filamentous fungal pathogens, Aspergillus spp. and zygomycetes account for highest rates of morbidity and mortality among immunocompromised patients. Recently developed antifungal drugs offer the potential to improve management and therapeutic outcomes of fungal infections. The aim of this study was to analyse the in vitro activities of voriconazole, itraconazole, amphotericin B and caspofungin against clinical isolates of Aspergillus spp. and Rhizopus oryzae. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The in vitro antifungal susceptibility of 54 isolates belonging to different clinical isolates of Aspergillus spp. and R. oryzae was tested for four antifungal agents using a microdilution reference method (CLSI, M38-A2). All isolates were identified by typical colony and microscopic characteristics, and also characterized by molecular methods. RESULTS: Caspofungin (MEC range: 0.008-0.25 and MEC50: 0.0023µg/mL) was the most active drug in vitro against Aspergillus spp., followed by voriconazole (MIC range: 0.031-8 and MIC50: 0.5µg/mL), itraconazole (MIC range: 0.031-16 and MIC50: 0.25µg/mL), and amphotericin B (MIC range: 0.125-4 and MIC50: 0.5µg/mL), in order of decreasing activity. The caspofungin, voriconazole, and itraconazole demonstrated poor in vitro activity against R. oryzae isolates evaluated, followed by amphotericin B. CONCLUSION: This study demonstrates that caspofungin had good antifungal activity and azole agents had better activity than amphotericin B against Aspergillus species. Although, azole drugs are considered ineffective against R. oryzae. This result is just from a small scale in vitro susceptibility study and we did not take other factors into consideration.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Formation of pseudohyphae is considered a virulence factor in Candida species. Generally, Candida glabrata grows as budding yeast cells; however, reports illustrated that C. glabrata could form pseudohyphal cells in response to some stimuli. In this study, we provided insight into the ability of C. glabrata in forming pseudohyphal cells under different levels of carbon dioxide (CO2). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Candida glabrata reference strain (ATCC 90030) was used in this study. Yeast samples were cultured on Sabouraud dextrose broth (SDB) medium and incubated under 3%, 5%, and 10% CO2 levels for 24, 48 and 72 h. Control cultures were prepared without CO2 pressure for three days. The possibility of pseudohyphae and mycelium formation in C. glabrata was investigated. RESULTS: The results of this study revealed that the most branching filament-like cells were obtained at high CO2 pressure (10%) after 72 h. After three days of low CO2 pressure (3%), only yeast and budding cells were observed without any pseudohyphae formation. CONCLUSION: CO2 could act as a stimulus and induced formation of pseudohyphae in Candida glabrata yeast cells.

The German cockroach, Blattella germanica (L.) has been recognized as a serious health problem throughout the world. Control failures due to insecticide resistance and chemical contamination of environment have led some researchers focus on the other alternative strategy controls. Microbial insecticides such as those containing entomo pathogenic fungi could be of high significance. Lecanicillium muscarium and Beauveria bassiana grow naturally in soils throughout the world and act as a parasite on various arthropod species, causing white muscardine disease. Thus, these two species could be considered as entomopathogenic fungi. The current study conducted to evaluate the toxicity of Beauveria bassiana and Lecanicillium muscarium against German cockroach, Blattella germanica. Conidial formulations of L. muscarium (PTCC 5184) and B. bassiana (PTCC5197) were prepared in aqueous suspensions with Tween 20. Bioassays were performed using two methods including submersion of cockroaches in conidial suspension and baiting. Data were analyzed by Probit program and LC50 and LC90 were estimated. The obtained results indicated that both fungi species were toxic against German cockroach however; Beauveria bassiana was significantly 4.8 fold more toxic than L. muscarium against German cockroach using submersion method.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Invasive aspergillosis (IA) is one of the most common life-threatening fungal infections among the critically ill patients including intensive care unit (ICU) patients. Delayed diagnosis and therapy may lead to poor outcomes. Diagnosis may be facilitated by a test for molecular biomarkers, i.e. detection of galactomannan (GM) antigen based on enzyme immunoassay, which is of increasing interest in the clinical settings for the diagnosis of IA. In the present study, we assessed GM testing of bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid as a tool for early diagnosis of IA among ICU patients who were at risk for developing IA. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A prospective study was performed in ICU patients with underlying predisposing conditions for IA between August 2010 and September 2011. BAL samples for direct microscopic examination, culture, and GM detection were obtained once or twice weekly. GM in BAL levels was measured using the Platellia Aspergillus EIA test kit. According to modified European Organization for the Research and Treatment of Cancer/ Mycoses Study Group (EORTC/MSG) criteria, patients were classified as having probable or possible IA. RESULTS: Out of 43 suspected patients to IA, 13 (30.2%) cases showed IA. According to the criteria presented by EORTC/MSG, they were categorized as: 4 cases (30.8%) of possible IA and 9 (69.2%) of probable IA. Out of 21 BAL samples from patients with IA, 11 (52.4%) had at least one positive BAL GM index. Using a cutoff index of 0.5, the sensitivity and specificity, positive and negative predictive values of GM detection in BAL fluid were 100%, 85.7%, 65.7% and 96%, respectively. The sensitivity and specificity was 73% and 92.7% at cutoff ≥1.0, respectively. In 6 of 13 IA cases, BAL culture or direct microscopic examination remained negative, whereas GM in BAL was positive. CONCLUSION: Our data have revealed that the sensitivity of GM detection in BAL was better than that of conventional tests. It seems that GM detection in BAL is beneficial to establish or exclude the early diagnosis of IA in ICU patients.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is associated with a chronic inflammatory response in airways and lung parenchyma that results in significant morbidity and mortality worldwide. Cigarette smoking considered as an important risk factor plays a role in pathogenesis of disease. Pneumocystis jirovecii is an atypical opportunistic fungus that causes pneumonia in immunosuppressed host, although the low levels of its DNA in patients without signs and symptoms of pneumonia, which likely represents colonization. The increased prevalence of P. jirovecii colonization in COPD patients has led to an interest in understanding its role in the disease. P. jirovecii colonization in these patients could represent a problem for public health since colonized patients could act as a major reservoir and source of infection for susceptible subjects. Using sensitive molecular techniques, low levels of P. jirovecii DNA have been detected in the respiratory tract of certain individuals. It is necessary to elucidate the role of P. jirovecii colonization in the natural history of COPD patients in order to improve the clinical management of this disease. In the current review paper, we discuss P. jirovecii colonization in COPD patients.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) has been recognized as a risk factor for invasive aspergillosis. Airway colonization by Aspergillus species is a common feature of chronic pulmonary diseases. Nowadays, the incidence of COPD has increased in critically ill patients. The aim of the present study was to isolate and identify Aspergillus colonies in the respiratory tract of COPD patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study was performed on 50 COPD patients, who were aged above 18 years, and were in intensive care units of three hospitals in Sari, Iran, for at least six days. All the samples obtained from sputum, bronchoalveolar lavage, and tracheal aspirates were cultured for fungi each week. According to the conventional techniques, Aspergillus isolates were initially based on growth and standard morphological characteristics. To confirm the identification of grown Aspergillus, the partial beta-tubulin gene was sequenced using specific primers. RESULTS: A total of 50 patients, who met our inclusion criteria, were enrolled in the study during 2012-14. The results showed that 27 (54%) and 23 (46%) of the participants were male and female, respectively. The majority of the patients developed dyspnea followed by hemoptysis, chest pain, and high fever. Corticosteroids and broad-spectrum antibacterial agents were administered to 75% and 80% of the patients, respectively. Based on the conventional and molecular approaches, A. fumigatus (seven cases; 43.7%), A. flavus (five cases; 31.2%), A. niger (one case; 6.2%), A. terreus (one case; 6.2%), A. orezea (one case; 6.2%), and A. tubingensis (one case; 6.2%) were recovered. CONCLUSION: Recovery of Aspergillus species from the respiratory tract of COPD patients with pneumonia indicates two possibilities: either colonization or invasive aspergillosis.

The German cockroach, Blattella germanica (L.) has been recognized as a serious health problem throughout the world. Control failures due to insecticide resistance and chemical contamination of environment have led some researchers focus on the other alternative strategy controls. Microbial insecticides such as those containing entomopathogenic fungi could be of high significance. Lecanicillium muscarium and Beauveria bassiana grow naturally in soils throughout the world and act as a parasite on various arthropod species, causing white muscardine disease. Thus, these two species could be considered as entomopathogenic fungi. The current study conducted to evaluate the toxicity of Beauveria bassiana and Lecanicillium muscarium against German cockroach, Blattella germanica. Conidial formulations of L. muscarium (PTCC 5184) and B. bassiana (PTCC5197) were prepared in aqueous suspensions with Tween 20. Bioassays were performed using two methods including submersion of cockroaches in conidial suspension and baiting. Data were analyzed by Probit program and LC50 and LC90 were estimated. The obtained results indicated that both fungi species were toxic against German cockroach however; Beauveria bassiana was significantly 4.8 fold more toxic than L. muscarium against German cockroach using submersion method.

INTRODUCTION: Invasive aspergillosis (IA) is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in immunocompromised patients. During recent years, a rising incidence of IA in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) patients has been reported. The patterns of IA related infection may differ according to the type of underlying disease. Unfortunately little is known about the characteristics of IA in ICU patients. In the present study we assessed IA related clinical and bronchoscopy findings in ICU patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study was performed at the ICU units in Sari and Babul, Mazandaran from August 2009 through September 2010. We analysed 43 ICU patients with underlying predisposing conditions for IA. Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) samples were collected by bronchoscope twice a weekly. The samples were analyzed by direct microscopic examination, culture and non-culture based diagnostic methods. Patients were assigned a probable or possible diagnosis of IA according to the consensus definition of the EORTC/MSG. RESULTS: Out of 43 suspected patients to IA, 13 (36.1%) cases showed IA. According to criteria presented by EORTC/MSG, they were categorized as: 4 cases (30.8%) of possible IA and 9 (69.2%) of probable IA. The observed mortality was 69.2%. The main underlying predisposing conditions were neutropenia, hematologic malignancy, and COPD. The macroscopic finding in bronchoscopy included of Prulent secretion (46.6%), Mucosal bleeding (30.7%), Mucosal erythema (23%), Trachobronchomalasia (15.3%). CONCLUSION: The diagnosis of IA in patients with critical illness in ICU is even more difficult. The clinical diagnostic process is often dependent on indirect circumstantial data enhancing the probability of IA. Bronchoscopy with inspection of the tracheobronchial tree, sampling of deep airway secretions and BAL can be helpful.

OBJECTIVE: Houseflies have long been regarded as potential carriers of microorganisms especially fungi. Since pathogenic microorganisms are widespread in the hospital environment, there is abundant opportunity for flies to become contaminated and in turn to contaminate the patient environment and residential regions. The aim of this study was to isolate and identify fungi from the slaughter house and the hospital environments. MATERIAL AND METHOD: The flies were captured with a sterile nylon net and transferred to the Entomology Laboratory for identification by standard keys. The flies were captured and rinsed in a solution of 1% sodium hypochlorite for three minutes and twice in sterile distilled water for 1 min then flies was transferred to a 0.85% saline solution. 0.1 ml of this solution was transferred to Sabouraud's dextrose agar (SDA). Isolation of fungi was identified by standard mycological methods. RESULTS: In this study totally 908 Musca domestica (418 flies from the hospital environments and 490 flies from the slaughter house) were collected in Sanandaj, Iran. The main fungi isolated were Aspergillus spp (66%). and another isolated were belong to Penecillium spp. (14%), Fusarium spp. (11.3%), Alternaria spp. (6%) and among the filamentous fungi, 8.6% of the isolates as Microsporum gypseum of dermatophytes was identified. CONCLUSION: The present study supports belief that the house fly is a carrier for fungal spores. Therefore they have to be controlled and density of their population should be reduced undertaken different vector control approaches.
